Experience a plug-in hybrid without compromise.

With both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, you get the best of both worlds: Pure electric for day-to-day driving, plus a powerful gasoline engine for longer trips. In other words, BMW Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles can be fully electric, fully gasoline or a thrilling combination of both.

During stop-and-go-driving, around town and on your daily commute, the gasoline engine may never start when in electric mode. You can even drive in pure EV mode at highway speeds. And for stronger acceleration, the electric motor can boost the gasoline engine for impressive performance from a stop or when merging into traffic.

With regular overnight charging at home, you'll enjoy better overall mileage and fewer trips to the gas station.

Enjoy lower ownership costs.

With available federal tax credits* and local incentives, not to mention saving on fuel, your overall ownership costs can be much lower than with a similar gasoline-powered vehicle. You even have the peace of mind of an 8-year/80,000-mile limited warranty on the PHEV battery.** You can also save time since in many states, your BMW PHEV is eligible for HOV lane access with a single occupant.

Charge when and where you want.

Plug in at home, at work or in the thousands of available public charging stations.* But keep in mind that even if you can't, the TwinPower Turbo engine in your BMW PHEV will take you where you want to go, free of "range anxiety."

Of course, there's a lot to be said for waking up every morning with a "full tank" of electric power. Just as you plug in your smartphone at night, your BMW PHEV will be most efficient if it's charged overnight.

**Charging from empty to 100% using a Level 2 (240 volt) charger with 32A service. Charging times are approximate. Colder ambient temperatures can make it slightly longer to charge. Colder temperatures also mean PHEVs are less efficient.

Depending on your vehicle, you can
achieve a full charge 3 to 7 hours.

BMW Model Highlights

The fully electric i3 model offers drivers two engine options, up to 200 miles of driving range (with a full charge), and an array of luxurious interior features. If you're looking for a vehicle that puts efficiency and unique exterior design first, the i3 is a must-consider. The i3 is available in two primary trims (i3 and i3s) with each available with a Range Extender option. The standard i3 trim is powered by a hybrid-synchronous electric motor (170 horsepower/ 184 pound-feet of torque), a 6.5-inch infotainment display, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and Apple CarPlay connectivity. If you're looking for a hybrid vehicle but the i3 is less than ideal, drivers may want to consider the BMW i8.

Looking like something out of a spy movie, the BMW i8 carefully blends hybrid functionality, futuristically suave exterior design, and classically elegant BMW style to create a truly distinct vehicle. The BMW i8 is available in a Coupe or Roadster variant. If you're looking to occasionally drop the top, the Roadster is likely for you. If you enjoy the classic feel that a hard-top vehicle brings, the Coupe option is a great place to start. Regardless of the body configuration selected, the i8 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor (combining for a hybrid engine) that manages 369 combined horsepower and 420 combined pound-feet of torque. Beyond this, both variants include standard intelligent all-wheel drive and an array of lavishly luxurious interior comfort and convenience features.

530e Sedan

The third trim variant of the BMW 5 Series, the 530e model boasts an elegantly sporty, yet classically casual BMW exterior design, a standard 2.0-liter twin-power turbo inline-4 engine, and standard rear-wheel drive. The BMW 530e features a spacious cabin with seating for up to five passengers, standard SensaTec upholstery, a 12-speaker/205-watt audio system, and a 10.25-inch infotainment display. If you're looking for a classic luxury sedan that stays true to BMW tradition, the 530e sedan is an excellent model to consider.

745e xDrive Sedan

Distinct from the rest of the BMW sedan lineup thanks to its hybrid engine, the 745e xDrive counts a roomy cabin, extravagant interior features, and a powerful engine amongst its distinguishing factors. The 745e xDrive is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline6 hybrid engine that boasts 389 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. It's also important to note that the 745e xDrive includes standard all-wheel drive. The interior of the 745e xDrive includes Dakota leather upholstery, high-gloss Fineline wood interior trim, and 20-way power multi-contour front seats. Tech features range from a Harman/Kardon surround sound audio system (16-speaker/600-watts) to an infotainment display with Apple CarPlay connectivity to wireless charging functionality. The 745e xDrive also includes a heated steering wheel and heated front seats.

X3 xDrive30e

Drivers looking for a versatile SUV option that stays on the compact end of the BMW SUV lineup but still dabbles in full-sized SUV aspects can look to the X3 xDrive30e with confidence. Featuring all-wheel drive functionality, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine (with an integrated electric motor), the X3 xDrive30 ensures plenty of driving versatility. If the X1 and X2 models are a bit too small and the X4 is a bit too large, the X3 might be just the right fit!
